CHOOSE YOUR PACE!

Text Box: Riding with MCBC means that you will never be dropped, no matter what your ability.  However, to be fair to other riders, you should attempt to chose a ride based on your skill level.  The following descriptions should help you chose a ride that is appropriate for you.

LEISURELY PACE. Most folks who ride a stop-and-smell-the-dairy-air leisurely pace often prefer to ride trails and average 7 to 10 mph.  There are rides scattered throughout the event schedule that are perfect for these riders.  We encourage beginning riders of all ages (kiddies must be accompanied by an adult) to go on these trail / leisurely paced rides.  Helmets are strongly recommended for these rides as on all rides.  The trail can present busy or hazardous situations that require control. Safety is always of the utmost importance.

MODERATE PACE rides make up the majority of club rides.  The leader of these rides usually plans a pace of between 12 to 14 mph and distances are usually 25 – 50 miles.  Since map/cue sheets are provided, riders of varying abilities can be accommodated.  The distance also varies but a participant should be able to successfully complete the published mileage or choose an alternate route with the leader’s help.

FAST-PACED rides are for the more advanced cyclists who are training for competition or are capable of longer distances at a speed of  >18 mph.  We encourage the fast guys and all gear heads to join in the regular club rides whenever they can.  Often they will ride to the start of the event at their pace and enjoy a social outing with slower riders until they want to take off again.
