The McHenry County Bicycle Club (MCBC) was established in 1980. MCBC has a year round planned schedule of bicycling, recreational and social events. Our Club has beginning riders, experienced touring riders and competitive racers. We have babies in Burleys, tots in tandems, seniors on cycles and everything in between. Our easy riders prefer shorter routes at a leisurely pace to stop and smell the roses. Our intermediate cyclists pedal at a moderate pace over distances from 20 to 60 miles. Our fast paced group hammers it home at more aggressive speeds and mileage. During the riding season weekend, as well as weekday morning and evening rides, are available. Most rides include stops for culinary delights (food or ice cream) and lively social discourse. After all, why ride if you can’t eat! Seasonal activities include: road and trail biking, monthly camping trips, kayaking, canoeing and picnics. With the advent of colder weather, our members hike, snow shoe and cross-country ski in an attempt to stay fit during the “off” season. The Awards and Elections Banquet held in the fall and the Winter Picnic (no more cabin fever) are among our annual special events. Our monthly Newsletter, Pedaler, contains articles of interest; monthly event schedule; riding, maintenance and health tips; jokes; jabber; questions and comments. Impromptu happenings are announced on MCBC’s web page. At our Club meetings, guest speakers are often invited to make presentations of local and national concern to bicyclists. We now have approximately 150 members from as far south as Chicago to folks north of the border in Wisconsin. Each year MCBC sponsors the UDDER CENTURY, a recreational invitational ride of 32, 50, 63 and 100 mile rural routes. The UDDER, held on the first Sunday in June, attracts over 1,200 riders from over six states. MCBC advocates bicycle safety, which includes always wearing a helmet and obeying traffic laws. We are affiliated with: The League of American Bicyclists, Chicago Bicycle Federation, Rails to Trails Conservancy, League of Illinois Bicyclists and Illinois Trails Conservancy. Join us on a ride, hike or stop by any of our events and see what we’re all about! Check out our website at:
